Created for Astra Wellbeing, a start-up dedicated to combating burnout in the healthcare industry, I was hired to design their web-based mobile platform that centered around fostering a culture where recognition is effortless – one message at a time.

Astra Wellbeing had identified a gap in the healthcare industry when it came to wellness and retention initiatives. Burnout had taken the healthcare industry by storm, with a projected shortage of 140,000 physicians by 2023. Healthcare workers were not feeling recognized or appreciated for their efforts, and Astra Wellbeing felt that this needed to change.

THE PROBLEM

Astra Wellbeing developed the industry’s first and only SMS-based wellness platform. Registered employees would receive daily text messages of recognition along with peer-to-peer messages and community submitted messages. Upon running a pilot launch at a Boston hospital, they received overwhelming positive feedback from the employees involved.

THE SOLUTION

Create a web-based mobile platform that is accessible through an SMS link where users can send messages, provide feedback, and access various wellness resources. The Astra Wellbeing team wanted to stick with their current color scheme and existing brand assets to create a platform that eliminated the hassle of downloading an app or creating an account.

THE BRIEF -

FEATURE 1: PEER TO PEER MESSAGING

Users can send messages to their peers to recognize them for their efforts.

Users will be able to send messages to their peers with the option to send an AI-generated message of encouragement or recognition, or the option to write their own. Once a message style has been selected, users will then get to choose whether or not they remain anonymous before sending the message in real time.

FEATURE 2: MESSAGE FEEDBACK

Users can provide feedback on their messages to help grow Astra Wellbeing’s AI.

As users receive messages, Astra Wellbeing’s platform will store their message history to allow them to provide feedback on what they’ve received that week. As feedback continues to flow in, the AI will gain a better understanding of what kinds of messages uplift and encourage their community.

FEATURE 3: WELLNESS RESOURCES

Users will have access to curated wellness resources outside of the messaging experience.

In order to allow Astra Wellbeing to become a well-balanced wellness platform, they decided to add in additional resources outside of the recognition messaging. This would allow users to access a curated list of podcasts, exercises, support groups, and more.

OUTCOMES AND NEXT STEPS -

After several rounds of edits, I was happy to find that the Astra Wellbeing team was happy with our final iteration. I learned a lot about balancing client requests and stepping outside of my comfort zone as a designer. Overall it was a super positive experience and I’m glad that we were able to create such a full-circle wellness platform for healthcare professionals everywhere.

NEXT STEPS

The possibilities are endless when it comes to next steps for Astra Wellbeing. Once the platform is fully developed it will be launched in a second round of pilots at several hospitals in the greater Boston area. I’m looking forward to what comes next for the Astra Wellbeing team!
